The meaning behind the Brave and Freedom Star:

"The “Lone Star” or "Star Quilt" motif originally comes from an American Western frontier handmade settler quilt. Since then our people have adopted and transformed star quilt making it into a symbol of love, respect, kinship and connection to our Ancestors.

Giving the gift of a Star quilt is one of our tribal customs given to express and honor our connections to one another. For births, marriages, graduations and even in death, Star Quilts are used to recognize our loved ones during life's biggest moments. The Star Quilt motif is a recognized symbol of honor and love in many Native American communities.

 It is given as a physical symbol to publicly acknowledge and express gratitude to those who've greatly impacted and left a mark on our journey."
